The Vekua’s integral expression for the two-dimensional fields valid only in the closed source-free region is generalized into the radiating field. The boundary-value problems for scattering and diffraction are formulated in the bicomplex space. The complex function of a single variable, which obeys the Cauchy-Riemann relations and thus expresses low-frequency aspects of the near field at a wedge of the scatterer, is connected with the radiating field by an integral operator having a suitable kernel. The behaviors of this complex function in the whole space are discussed together with those of the far-zone field or the amplitude of angular spectrum. The Hilbert’s factorization scheme is used to find out a linear transformation from the far-zone field to the bicomplex-valued function of a single variable. This transformation is shown to be unique. The new integral expression for the field scattered by a thin metallic strip is also obtained. key words: bicomplex, scattering, diffraction, Hilbert’s factorization technique, Vekua’s formulas

A New Theorem Concerning Scattering of Electromagnetic Waves in Multilayered Metamaterial Spherical Structures

The proposed theorem in this paper is indicative of a kind of duality in the propagation of waves in the dual media of and in the spherical structures. Independent of wave frequency, the number of layers, their thickness, and the type of polarization, this theorem holds true in case of any change in any of these conditions. Theorem: Consider a plane wave incident on a multilayered spheric...

1 Scattering matrices and existence of trapped waves Systems with finitely many scattering channels are discussed in various branches of wave physics. One can mention, for instance, diffraction gratings (optics), waveguides with local perturbations (acoustics, microwave and quantum physics), etc. (few examples are shown in Fig.1). In all cases, far away from the scattering area both incident an...

Volume Integral Equations for Scattering from Anisotropic Diffraction Gratings

We analyze electromagnetic scattering of TM polarized waves from a diffraction grating consisting of a periodic, anisotropic, and possibly negative-index dielectric material. Such scattering problems are important for the modelization of, e.g., light propagation in nano-optical components and metamaterials. The periodic scattering problem can be reformulated as a strongly singular volume integr...

Simulation of Surface Plasmon Excitation in a Plasmonic Nano-Wire Using Surface Integral Equations

In this paper, scattering of a plane and monochromatic electromagnetic wave from a nano-wire is simulated using surface integral equations. First, integral equationsgoverning unknown fields on the surface is obtained based on Stratton-Cho surface integral equations. Then, the interaction of the wave with a non-plasmonic as well as a palsmonic nano-wire is considered. It is shown that in scatter...

Effective Method of Solving the Waves Diffraction Problems by Impedance Scatterers with Angular Boundary

In this paper, we present the results of solution of three-dimensional electromagnetic scattering problems by impedance bodies of revolution, using the Pattern Equations Method (PEM). The good convergence this results is shown on the example of a prolate spheroid and a cylinder with spherical rounding. Key-Words: Scattering pattern, scatterer, impedance, prolate spheroid, cylinder
